On continue la série pour apprendre les phrasal verbs les plus courants avec les autres verbes commençant par un “T” (après ceux avec “to throw”, “to take” et “to turn”) :
- “To talk back” : “répondre à”, dans le sens de “mal parler”
ex. : Don’t talk back to your parents.
Ne réponds pas à tes parents.
- “To talk # over” : “parler de”
ex. : Let’s talk over your college plans.
Il faut qu’on parle de ton avenir.
- “To tear # down +” : “démolir”
ex. : The government must tear down several schools to build new ones.
Le gouvernement doit détruire plusieurs écoles pour en construire de nouvelles.
- “To tear # up +” : “déchirer”
ex. : I’m going to tear up this letter.
Je vais déchirer cette lettre.
- “To tell # off +” : “gronder”
ex. : Sometimes, I need to tell off my son.
Parfois, je dois gronder mon fils.
- “To tell on +” : “dénoncer”
ex. : I didn’t want to tell on other people.
Je ne voulais pas dénoncer quelqu’un.
- “To think # over +” : “(bien) réfléchir à”
ex. : Think over the offer before you sign.
Réfléchis bien à l’offre avant de signer.
- “To think # through +” : ”réfléchir sérieusement”
ex. : You have to think through the consequences of your actions.
Tu dois réfléchir sérieusement aux conséquences de tes actes.
- “To think # up +” : “inventer une excuse”
ex. : I need to think up an excuse for not going to her party.
Je dois inventer une excuse pour ne pas aller à sa fête.
- “To touch # on” : “évoquer”
ex. : During his speech, the president touched on several issues.
Pendant son discours, le président a évoqué plusieurs problèmes.
- “To touch # up” : “retoucher”
ex. : I touched up the photos on my computer.
J’ai retouché les photos sur mon ordinateur.
- “To try # on +” : “essayer”
ex. : Try on this skirt to see if it fits you.
Essaie cette jupe pour voir si elle te va.
- “To try # out” : “tester”
ex. : Try out this delicious tea.
Essaie ce thé délicieux.
